Providing high-quality produce for 24 years

A lot has changed since we were founded in the 1970’s as local beef farmers, but our links with the local Gloucestershire farming industry remain strong.

We are proud to provide fresh, local meat produce for Gloucestershire school meals, pubs, restaurants and hotels as well as for private events such as our well established and renowned hog roasts.

Our History

1940

(George) Albert Edward Creese brought Stonebow Farm in Ashleworth, Gloucestershire. At the farm, they kept a livestock of over 250 Hereford Cross and Angus Cattle.

1971

Peter Creese, Son of George Creese takes on the farm and livestock along with his wife Corrie and three children, Rodrick, Andrew and Benjamin. Whilst living on the farm, Roderick, Andrew and Benjamin learnt how to butcher in their farmhouse kitchen cutting sides of beef.

1985

Peter and Andy Creese open the family butchers shop at Staunton Cross, Gloucestershire.

1986

Benjamin takes over the shop in Staunton, Gloucestershire. The shop is renamed as Ben Creese County Butchers. Andrew relocates his shop to Newent High Street, Gloucestershire and opens his shop, Andy Creese Country Butchers.

1996

Roderick opens his butcher’s shop in Hucclecote, Gloucestershire called Creese Brothers Butchers.

2013

Benjamin relocates from the retail shop in Staunton, Gloucestershire to new premises a mere 100 yards or so up the road to Pillows Green, Staunton, Gloucestershire. He opens as a wholesale butcher serving to Schools, Pubs, Restaurants and other businesses around Gloucestershire and the surrounding areas.

2023

Country Butchers (formerly Ben Creese Country Butchers) was bought by Paul & Jaime Guilding in May 2023. The company was founded by Ben Creese 35 years ago and was primarily a butcher’s shop serving the public in Staunton. The shop sourced its produce from local farms and abattoirs around Gloucestershire with relationships Ben had made through his background in farming. As the business grew and the customer base changed more towards hospitality and catering, the business relocated 500 yards down the road to Lawn Farm into a bespoke facility geared up for achieving higher volumes. Following covid and Ben approaching retirement, Paul came to work for Ben in 2021 with a view to take over the business. Paul is the nephew of Andy Creese (Ben’s Brother) so has known Ben all his life. Paul has worked in the meat industry both locally and nationally for 25 years. Whilst the business continues to grow and service customers up and down the country, Country Butchers have maintained their relationships with local farms and abattoirs and continue to use as much local produce as possible, including Beef from Tweenhills in Hartpury, Pork and lamb from P J Kings Abattoir in Brookthorpe and Chicken from Severn Poultry in the Stroud valley.
